Reflexology and maternity

Pre-natal (time of conception and gestation period) and Peri-natal (labor, birth and establishing breastfeeding) experiences are significantly formative for both the baby and the parents.  It is the time patterns are developed around relationships, for life.

“The way we are conceived, carried, birthed and greeted matters greatly”
Journal of Pre-natal and Peri-natal Psychology and Health

What is important is the quality of life and the quality of health in both our personal relationships and within society -“womb ecology becomes world ecology”.  Therefore, reflexology can support this developmental phase by encouraging a balanced foundation for both babies and parents.

Reflexology works on many levels to improve the quality of life of you and your baby during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  It helps you prepare for the birth of your child and adjust to the physiological and metabolic changes you will experience as well as the hormonal and emotional changes you will go through.

“Thank you Joanne for helping me identify and release the emotional blockages that were preventing me from falling pregnant – I am so grateful for your support and wisdom”. Christine

During the first 3 months of pregnancy Human Chronic Gonadotrophin (hCG) is produced by the foetus and can make the expectant mother feel unwell.  The mother’s body reacts to the growing baby by producing relaxin, an ovarian hormone that enables the pelvic ligaments to soften in preparation for the birth.  These changes can be overwhelming and extremely uncomfortable which is where Reflexology can provide relief.

Reflexology improves circulation which is vital to every organ and the baby, as it transports nutrients, oxygen, antibodies, hormones and toxins (waste).
